Bio
With Breaking News, we created objects that highlighted popular news stories from 2009. The pieces were created through a filter of found objects, handcrafted materials, appropriated sound, and in some instances, reinterpreted 20th century art. Further investigation into a similar method of translating data or information into visual representation led to our next project, where we printed and stacked all 1,990 pages of the Health Care Bill- showcasing the absurdity of a bureaucracy. Most recently, through the Galleries at Moore College of Art & Design and in collaboration with NextFab Studios, we were able to utilize advanced fabrication methods to create ROCK, a sculptural installation made out of nearly 200 laser-cut acrylic sheets. Since 2010 we’ve maintained a web-based cellphone photo project at citysecrets.info
Artist statement
Our decision to work collaboratively allows us to have an ever-evolving dialogue on art, politics, modern culture, and life-in-general. Usually working around a specific theme during our collaborations, we believe that what we create presents a basic idea that provides a jumping point for further discussion. With a never-ending supply of contemporarily relevant ‘themes’ at our disposal, we use our collaborative practice as visual commentary, defining a duality. We have assumed a “common goal” – that is, to make art we believe is visually interesting and, at the same time, pay respect to the history of art and traditional artistic practice.
