Bio
Ryan Travis Christian (born 1983 Oakland CA) graduated from NIU with a BFA in painting. Christian has exhibited internationally in the past four years, including significant shows in LA, SF, San Diego, Chicago, and Rotterdam with upcoming endeavors in London, Copenhagen, NYC, Toronto & Raleigh. He pairs his artistic practice with collaboration, curatorial projects, event organization, writing and promotion of contemporary art, lectures and thematic DJ sets. RTC is represented by Guerrero Gallery SF, Western Exhibitions CH, CooperCole ON, and Ivory&Black UK. He lives and works outside of Chicago, Illinois.
Artist statement
RTC creates scenes of monochromatic psychedelia with his graphite-on-paper works. Christian has constructed these works using gestural abstract elements, geometric patterns,comic utilities, vintage cartoon iconography, and pop cultural references to depict surreal suburban narratives.
